Concerning True Religion

What religion is correct? And why so many?

Answer:

The correct religion is the one Jesus Himself founded, since He is the life, truth and way. This does not mean, however, that other religions do not have partial truths and vestiges of Jesus. They do have them, but the Catholic Church has the plenitude of Revelation and the full truth about God.

There are as many religions in the world as there obstinate, rebellious persons who have no notion of obedience and spiritual authority. They simply refuse to recognize an authority set up by Jesus Himself, so they go off and start their private sect, obligating now, others to do for them what they would not do for God’s representatives: submit their minds and wills.

In the past, heretics have come and gone in history, but the Catholic Church continued in existence. In the 11th century, the patriarch of Constantinople refused to recognize the authority of the Pope and separated from the Catholic Church. That is why the Holy Father goes every November (on the feast of St. Andrew) to Turkey, in order to attempt a reconciliation and union with the Greek Orthodox members. In the 16th century, two ex-priests, Luther and Calvin, broke away from the Catholic Church because they despaired in regard to human nature, declaring that it was impossible for grace to change it. They denied the power of the sacraments and the priesthood and established an impotent religion. Their successors bickered amongst themselves and broke off into thousands of splinter groups. They never really separate in their beliefs, but join together in a common cause to destroy the Catholic Church. King Henry VIII had his eyes on the wealth of the monasteries in England and broke away from the Catholic Church in order to take possession of these goods.
